History of Forest Hill Cabin

The Forest Hill mining camp was established in the 1880's, during the Leadville Silver mining rush  and was active until the 1920's. There were over 300 people who worked and lived there from 1880 thru 1920. During this period 13 men and 2 women where strung up and hanged!

Over 50K  tons of gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper and other ores where taken out of the Forest hill mining camp.  The average snowfall in the Taylor Park area is around 8-10 feet and temperatures can reach 50 below zero!

Old timers hiked from as far away as Leadville in the dead of winter to get to this mining camp! Taylor Park has been called "Colorado's Last Shangrala" and is south of Aspen and Leadville, west of Buena Vista and North of Gunnison.
